HARRAH – Woodward’s boys recorded their first victory of the season in the consolation semifinals of the Panther Classic Friday.

The girls, though, lost to Sapulpa in the championship semifinals and will play for third place today.

Matt Moore scored 15 points and Cody Cole 14 as the Boomers defeated Duncan 57-46.

Woodward overcame a slow start to open up a 23-15 halftime lead and the Boomers controlled the second half.

David Nelson, Kurt Ham, Jacob Van Dorn and Brady Sunderland all scored five points and Ben Murray had Tyson Miller had four.

Woodward plays Oklahoma City Classen today at 2:30 p.m. for the consolation title.

Sapulpa, a top 10 team in Class 6A, broke open a close game with an 11-0 run in the third period and defeated the Boomers 52-38.

It was a two-point game at 29-27 when Sapulpa started its run that stretched into the fourth period. Sapulpa led by as many as 17 points.

Maggie Foster led the Boomers with 16 points and Carli Covalt scored 12. Ashley Jantz added six and Brooke Bogdahn and Chelsey Jones had two each.

Woodward plays for third place today at 4:30 p.m.
