EDMOND – The AAA Travelers are safely through the first round of the zone tournament at Santa Fe High School.

Woodward hammered Lone Grove 15-3 in five innings Friday and moved into tonight’s 6 p.m. winners’ bracket final. The Travelers will face either host Edmond Santa Fe or the Enid Area AAA team.

Levi Lewis pitched three innings for the win Friday. Steve Nelson and Josh Goodman threw in relief.

The Travelers got production throughout their offense.

Ethan Davis, Dylan Weber and Matt McDonald all drove in three runs for the Travelers. Weber had a home run among his two hits.

Greg Kirby, Lewis, Chance Beck, Tyler Overton and Trevor Long all had hits, scored runs and drove in at least one run.

Overton, in fact, scored three times in the game.

The Travelers improved to 38-34 win the victory.

They have played Edmond Sana Fe once this year, winning in the Midwest City Tournament in May.

Against the Enid Area AAA, the Travelers are 1-1, having split a doubleheader earlier in the season.

Woodward is in its first season of AAA competition in the American Legion having played at the Majors level in recent years.

The AAA state tournament is next week at Choctaw High School.
