Teams from across Oklahoma open up bids for a trip to the state softball tournament in regional competition today.
The Boomers will make their second straight regional tournament appearance. Third at Clinton last year, the Boomers are in the Piedmont regional and face Clinton today at 3 p.m.
Piedmont, the 6th ranked team in Class 4A, opens the tournament against Cleveland at 1:30 p.m.
An elimination game starts at 4:30 p.m. with the winners bracket contest at 6 p.m. The double elimination tournament concludes Friday with the winner advancing to state.
The Boomers take a 24-14 record into the regional while Clinton is 26-10. Clinton beat the Boomers 8-2 earlier in the year.
Piedmont has a 30-5 record and Cleveland is 20-19.
In Class A, the 6th-ranked Mooreland Bearcats host a regional and play Hooker today at 1:30 p.m. Beaver plays Pond Creek-Hunter at 3 p.m.
Mooreland is 30-5 on the season and have lost just once at home to Leedey, top-ranked in Class B.
Beaver sports a 23-5 record and is expected to be Mooreland’s top challenger.
Both teams cruised through district play.
Hooker has a 19-12 record and Pond Creek-Hunter is 19-11.
Leedey takes a 22-4 record into regional play and the Bison open at home against Arnett, today at 1:30 p.m.
Waukomis, 22-8, faces Forgan, 22-15 in the 3 p.m. contest.
In fall baseball, Leedey and Arnett are in the Class B regional at Granite starting Friday. Leedey plays Granite at 2 p.m. and Arnett takes on Blair at 4 p.m.
