The Woodward Middle School girls basketball teams swept their final home games on Thursday night. The eighth grade girls beat Clinton 32-26. The seventh graders beat Clinton 40-26.

On the boys side, the seventh graders fell to the Red Tornados 35-33 in the most thrilling game of the night. Clinton’s eighth grade boys recorded a 35-22 victory.

The Woodward seventh grade boys had a early, but saw it evaporate in the third when they were outscored 13-4.

The fourth quarter was no kinder for the Boomers. They hit two threes to go up 33-29 early in the quarter, but they would not score again.

Both teams turned the ball over down the stretch, but a late foul by the Boomers sent a Red Tornado player to the line. He made both free throws with two seconds left on the clock. A late throw-in by the Boomers went out of bounds. Clinton then ran out the clock.

Kaleb Roach led the Boomers with 12 points before he fouled out. Taylan Iliff had seven points. Slade Roach and Micah Kee had six each. Austin Ludwyck added a bucket for the Boomers.

The eighth grade girls finished their home schedule strong. They started out with a 5-0 run. A rebound and put-back by Haley Bates but Woodward up 9-4 at the end of one.

In the second quarter Clinton made a comeback and took the lead 10-9. The Boomers answered by going on a 5-0 run to end the half. They led 18-14.

Halftime didn’t cool off the Boomers as they went on an 8-0 to begin the third. They never looked back from there, cruising to the final score.

Bates finished with 14 points. Mercedez Bell had nine points. Nichole Roach scored four. Sierra Irwin had 3 points and Jenna Trissel scored two.

The first game of the night featured the seventh grade girls, who dominated the first quarter. They forced Clinton into turnovers that led to easy lay-ups. They were up 16-4 after the first quarter.

Clinton got back in the game in the second quarter, but were still trailing 20-12 at the half. Amanda Covalt had nine points in the half, all in the first quarter, to pace the Boomers.

The Red Tornados would get no closer than five points in the second half. Several long runs by the Boomers got them the big victory.

Covalt finished with 14 points. Kaity Shoaf had 13. Lindsey Custer had six. Mirimar Vasquez had four. Devon Morrison had two and Sarah Meinders had a point.

In the eighth grade boys game, Cloyd led Woodward with 11 points, Harvey scored four, Jia three and Alvarez and Gutierrez two each.
