The Boomers tip off the 2007-2008 basketball season tonight against Class 6A Enid at Boomer Fieldhouse.

Action starts with the girls at 6:30 p.m. and the boys game follows.

This is the start of a three-game season opening homestand for the Boomers, who host Guymon on Friday and Liberal, Kan. next Tuesday.

Woodward’s girls swept Enid a year about, but are going into the season with leading returning scorer Carli Covalt sidelined by a knee injury.

Amy Weder and Kori Ham are returning starters for the Boomers.

Enid’s girls were 14-9 last yer led by Dysyan Malone.

Woodward’s boys team has four starters back from last year’s club including Matt Moore, Andrew Hickman, Kurt Ham and David Nelson.

Enid’s boys don’t return the same type of experience but the do have some athletes coming back. Chance Cravens, a 6-4 senior, is the only returning starter.

Tonight’s area schedule is a busy one.

Matchups include Arnett at Vici, Buffalo at Laverne, Fort Supply at Freedom, Gage at Leedey, Seiling at Sharon-Mutual and Waynoka at Burlington.

Also, Balko at Follett, Texas, Guymon at Beaver, Felt at Tyrone, Hooker at Forgan, Hardesty at Yarbrough, Keyes ast Turpin and Spearman, Texas at Texhoma.
