The Boomer basketball teams start a busy four-game week tonight with their first road trip of the season.

Woodward visits the Anadarko Warriors. Varsity action starts at 6:30 p.m.

It’s another high-profile matchup for the WHS girls, who are 1-1 this season. Anadarko is the defending Class 4A champion and returns three starters from that team.

The Boomers and Warriors met three times last year with Woodward winning all three. The Boomers have won five straight in the series.

On the boys side, the Boomers and Warriors split a year ago. Woodward goes into this game looking for its first victory of the season.

Beginning Thursday, the Boomers will be in the power-packed Harrah Tournament that features some highly-regarded Class 4A, 5A and 6A teams.

Several games are on the area schedule today as teams get in one last tuneup for weekend tournaments.

The schedule includes Balko at Goodwell, Mooreland at Buffalo, Forgan at Tyrone, Wakita at Freedom, Gage at Higgins, Texas, Fargo at Follett, Texas, Keyes at Hardesty, Waynoka at Medford, Shattuck at Laverne, Canadian, Texas at Beaver, Walsh, Colo., at Boise City, Okeene at Cimarron and Turpin at Booker, Texas.

Game time at all sites is 6:30 p.m.

Some tournaments are under way. Arnett played in the Canton Tournament on Monday, and the Five-County Tournament is going on at Sentinel. Leedey, Cheyenne-Reydon and Hammon are among the teams in that tournament.

Several tournaments start on Thursday including the Fargo Tournament, Laverne Invitational, Northwestern Tournament at Alva and the Keyes Tournament.

The tournaments run through Saturday.

Also today, the Woodward junior high and high school wrestling teams will hold their first home matches of the season. Action starts with the junior high at 6 p.m. followed by the high school.

Woodward’s junior high team is coming off a second place finish in the Kingfisher Tournament. This will be the regular season opener for the high school squad.
