Rev. Jasper N. Overton, 67-year-old resident of Sharon, died Sunday, June 24, 2007 in the Woodward Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007 in the Woodward First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Bradley and the Rev. Mark Nickles officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Jasper Nay Overton was born Sept. 4, 1939 in Enid; he was the son of Lawrence Lee and Letha (Hardiman) Overton. Jasper was reared in Pond Creek on the family farm and graduated from Pond Creek High School in 1957. On Aug. 23, 1959, Jasper was married to Ruth Ann Apperson in the First Baptist Church in Woodward. He attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1961 with Bachelor of Science in Education and in 1963, received his Master’s Degree. Jasper then went to Gunnison, Colo. where he attended Western State College and received his Education Specialist degree in the early 1970's. Jasper and Ruth Ann made their home in Alva before moving to Woodward where he was a teacher and coach. They moved to Boise City where Jasper was a Principal and later became Superintendent. They lived in Boise City for nine years. Jasper was hired as Superintendent at Keyes, living there for six years. In 1982, they returned to Woodward where Jasper was Principal of the 5th and 6th Grade Center before he retired in 1992. Jasper started his ministry as Director of Missions of the Northwest Baptist Association, retiring in June of 2006.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sharon. He was also a member of the Woodward Rotary, Lions Club, Ministerial Alliance, OEA, NEA, ORTA and several other educational organizations. Jasper devoted much of his ministry in building and renovating the Northwest Baptist Association campground in Vici. He enjoyed working with wood in his wood shop and also enjoyed helping his son Kelley on the farm.

He is survived by his wife Ruth Ann of the home; son Kelley Overton and wife Tricia of Woodward; daughter Jeannie Cook and husband Gary of Keyes; grandchildren Marsha Perky, Michelle Perky and Mitchell Perky all of Keyes; Blake Overton and fiancee Jandi Borden; Kayla Overton all of Woodward; great grandson Kaden Overton of Woodward; one brother Ralph Overton and wife Ameda of Washington; sisters Iris Metzker and husband Jeff of Washington; Eloise Evans of Pond Creek; Janet Jones and husband Roy of Nevada; Una Vey Stout of Durant.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Vivian Powers.

Memorials may be made to the Northwest Baptist Association Camp with the funeral home accepting the memorials.
