Ralph G. Rose Jr., 87-year-old longtime Woodward businessman, died Monday, June 26, 2006 in the Mooreland Heritage Manor. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2006 in the First United Methodist Church in Woodward with the Rev. Scott Heusel officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Ralph Gordon Rose Jr. was born May 20, 1919 in Catesby, Okla.; he was the son of Ralph Gordon and Hallie Lucrece (White) Rose. Ralph attended grade school in Catesby and started high school at Luther Hill. His parents moved to Alva and Ralph graduated from Alva High School in 1937. On June 15, 1940, Ralph was married to Dorothirose Gallon. They made their home in Alva. Ralph worked for SSC Seismograph Service Corp, living in several cities before he went into the Army Air Corp. Following his time in service, they made their home in Anadarko and in 1947, moved to Woodward where Ralph ran the Daily Oklahoman Distribution Center. Ralph began working as an insurance salesman and retired from Businessmen’s Assurance at the age of 70.

Ralph was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Woodward. Ralph was a member of the Woodward Masonic Lodge #189, he was also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Guthrie, a Shriner, a member of the American Legion, Woodward Golf and Country Club, and the Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid golfer and spent quality time pursuing the game. Ralph devoted much of his spare time during his working career to the Masonic Lodge and took part in many good works there.

Ralph is survived by one daughter Cecelia Vanderslice and husband Guy of Quinlan; one brother Alvin Rose and wife Jean of Miami; one sister Helen Roach of Mooreland; four grandchildren, Tahni McDonald and husband Mike of Fairview; Kimberly Ikenberry and husband Mark of Edmond; Marnee‚ Crawford and husband Billy of Cordell; Kent Vanderslice and wife Layla of Marietta, Ga. and 11 great grandchildren.

Ralph was preceded in death by his wife Dorothirose Rose on Feb. 9, 2001, his son R. G. Rose III, his parents, one brother, Lawrence, two sisters, Margarite Walton and Bessie Kirkpatrick.

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Alzeimers Division with the funeral home as custodian of the fund.
