MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Carrie Shapiro, vice president of operations of the Dixie Brand at Georgia-Pacific, will be the keynote speaker at the Women's Leadership Conference on Wednesday at Indian Capital Technology Center.

The conference, in its 15th year, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to help women "gain valuable leadership and business skills while creating a network of business partners," said Angela Wilson, vice president of the Greater Muskogee Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.

"It's designed to be an uplifting experience to keep young women climbing the business ladder and to inspire business women who are already in leadership positions," Wilson said.

Shapiro has been vice president for four years. Before that, she was the Supply Chain and Customer Service director for Georgia-Pacific Bleached Board.

A Georgia Tech graduate with a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering, Shapiro is one of seven speakers scheduled in the conference. Other speakers include Cara Cowan-Watts, Kristi Spaethe, Andrea Tucker, Kerry Keane, Shenia Salimonu and Linda Hasler-Reid.

Cowan-Watts is the chief executive officer and majority owner of Tulsa Pier Drilling and owner of Cherokee Star. Spaethe is president and principal consultant of The People Perspective LLC. Tucker is the owner of Merrill Lynch Financial Advisory in Tulsa. Keane is owner and general manager of of FitHappens Fitness Studio. Salimonu is a success coach with the Bridges Out of Poverty program. Hasler-Reid is a principal at Jenks East Intermediate School.

Titles of subjects at the conference include Executive Presence for Women, Embracing the Exponential Power of Networking, Surviving Detours in Your Journey, Fit Mind-Fit Body-Fit Soul, Igniting Hope and Real World Practices For Success.

"Men are welcome at lunch," Wilson said.

The conference also will include panel discussions and concludes with the Women in Leadership Awards. The awards program started in 2015.
