Enter His Gates Horse Camp still has spots open for the faith-based nonprofit's equestrian summer camp.

Enter His Gates Summer Camp, a nonprofit weeklong camp for children 8-14 years old, gives kids the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, be around horses, learn about God and learn responsibility through the other activities hosted during the summer camp.

David McCreary, Enter His Gates president, said activities this summer include horseback riding, canoeing, archery, bird watching, fishing, gun safety, swimming and Bible study.

Summer campers do activities 8 a.m. to noon at the private farm where the camp is hosted, then break for lunch and a Bible study in Enid, before going to a private pool to swim the rest of the afternoon.

The Bible study sessions are at Covenant Life Fellowship, 501 S. Cleveland, but McCreary said the camp and the Bible study are nondenominational and are open to all kids.

For some campers, time at Enter His Gates is their first introduction to church life, McCreary said. And, with no cell phones allowed during the camp, a lot of kids are reintroduced to fun outdoor activities.

"You're going to get to be a kid again," McCreary said, "and do all the things kids used to do, and spend some time with God as well."

The camp has four week-long sessions: May 27-31, June 3-7, June 17-21 and June 24-28. McCreary said there is availability in all four sessions, but there are a limited number of spots remaining.

Registration for the camp is $150, and there are scholarships available for those in need.

"We don't want any kids to not come just because they can't cover the cost," McCreary said.

McCreary said kids who attend the camp take away a wealth of life experiences and memories.

"I just believe they come away as better citizens, and they get the chance to interact with kids from other backgrounds," he said. "They come away each day tired, but also energized, and they've at least heard something about God."
