Woodward Public Schools is once again participating in the Summer Food Service Program this year.

Free meals for breakfast and lunch will be provided to any child 18 years old and under. Peggy Purgason, child nutrition director of the district said, “We do not discriminate against anyone. They do not have to be a resident of Woodward.”

The program begins June 1 and lasts through June 26. It is open on weekdays.

Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. The lunch program begins at 11 a.m. and will last until 12:30 p.m.

Meals will be served at the Woodward Middle School Cafeteria and at Oak Park.

Children do not have to register or anything else, they just have to show up ready to eat.

Purgason said the program has averaged 250-300 kids for breakfast and around 400 for lunch in the past.

“I expect it to be higher this year due to the conditions in the oilfield,” Purgason said.

The meals that are served for the program will be similar to those children in the district receive during the school year.

Meals will be served by the cafeteria staffs at the schools.
