Woodward’s elementary and middle schools will hold programs honoring those who served in all branches of the military next week in approach of Veteran’s Day on Nov. 11.

With Veteran’s Day falling on Saturday this year, the school assemblies and performances will be held on Nov. 9 and Nov. 10.

On Nov. 9, Woodward’s three elementary schools – Horace Mann, Highland Park and Cedar Heights – will hold a program at the high school auditorium beginning at 1 p.m., said Golda Duncan, the program director.

“We will be singing an inspiring patriotic tribute and we will be honoring veterans by recognizing each branch of the military service,” she said.

Duncan said all veterans of all the military branches are invited.

On Nov. 10, the focus moves to the Woodward Middle School where two programs are planned in the school auditorium.

The fifth-sixth grade program starts at 9:15 a.m. and the seventh-eighth grade program is at 10:15 a.m., said Lisa Ross, a teacher at the middle school.

“Veterans are invited to attend both assemblies,” Ross said.

The planned speaker is Jeff Smith from the Army National Guard, who served in Iraq.

The fifth-sixth grade and seventh-eighth grade choirs directed by Linda Kessinger will also perform, Ross said.
