Official identification of a body found on Friday near Mooreland by the Woodward County Sheriff's office was not available as of Monday afternoon.

The State Medical Examiner's office told The News that it did not have a timeline on when the identification will be completed.

Sheriff Kevin Mitchell said that as of Saturday morning, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has taken the lead in the case, which involves the sheriff's office and other agencies as well.

Mitchell noted that there is a lot of information he can't release yet, "due to the fact that it is still a very active case."

Officials have been investigating a missing persons case for the last couple of weeks.

Trent Shuman, 24, has been missing since May 21.

On Saturday, family members of Shuman told The News they were notified by officials that the remains are suspected to be his.

The OSBI said the medical examiner will also determine the cause of death.

The OSBI said on Monday that if anyone thinks they have information relevant to the case, contact the OSBI at 800-522-8017 or tips@osbi.ok.gov.
