ENID - Woodward opened play in the Connie Mack Baseball State Tournament with a 10-3 win over the Southwest Shockers Black Wednesday at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

A seven-run third inning was the catalyst as the Travelers improved to 44-8 overall. Woodward trailed 3-1 until the third inning.

David Garcia had three hits and Colten Hunter two as Woodward had 10 hits in the game and took advantage of four errors.

Drake Kerr drove in a pair of runs.

Brady Benedict pitched all six innings for the win, striking out six.

Woodward will play the Shawnee Phillies today at 3:45 p.m. The teams have split a pair of meetings this season. On Friday, the Travelers close out pool play with an 8:15 game against the Enid Majors.

The top two teams in each pool advance to the bracket round on Saturday.

In earlier games on Wednesday, Sandlot Painter defeated the Premier Titans 16-1 and the Enid Plainsmen surprised Sandlot Ballard 8-3. Also, MVP Seng defeated Oklahoma Expos 10-0.
