Woodward’s Red Cross Blood Donor Center is currently holding its “Celebration of Life” blood drive this week.

The donor center will be open today and Thursday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

“This time of year it’s really important to donate blood,” said Sheila McGuire, team supervisor. “Donations are always down this time of year.”

McGuire said many people are on vacation during the summer or their routine has changed and blood donors are scarce during this time.

With the Fourth of July approaching McGuire said that blood will be needed.

“Unfortunately a lot of things happen around the holidays,” said McGuire. McGuire also said it is best to donate as soon as possible as it takes several days before the donated blood is available for use.

McGuire said everyone who donates will get a T-shirt and will get to sign a poster that will be taken to Greensburg, Kan.

McGuire said Greensburg was a town that held many blood drives but cannot hold all of their regular blood drives due to the tornado that destroyed the town in May.

“It’s so they know we’re all thinking of them and donating in their place,” said McGuire.

Next week the Red Cross Donor Center will be open Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
