Several Horace Mann students will compete in the state Soft Seven math competition after winning at the regional competition Friday.
The state competition will be held May 10 in Stigler. Soft Seven Woodward MathRace Regional winners for 2012 included 8 students from 2nd grade through 5th grades.
Soft Seven is a computerized multiplication race. The "Soft" stands for software and "Seven" stands for how old the creator's son was when the program was created said Debbie Harrington, principal of Horace Mann.
Harrington said the program has students do 10 exercises, each a minute long, and after the exercises they receive their score.
"It's a pretty amazing thing to watch," she said.
The regional competition was held on Friday, April 27 at High Plains Technology Center where several schools competed including Laverne, Buffalo, Goodwell, Booker, Okeene and Canton.
Horace Mann sent 13 students to compete. The 8 winners included Leslie Klassen, Eli Martin, Victor Martin, Kaden Kornele, Tyler Zwink, Ryan Cope, Kedrick Klassen and Blake Alexander.
"We're pretty proud of them," Harrington said. "It's like taking state in basketball for us."
