"Get Hooked On Fishing," a free youth fishing clinic, will be held at Crystal Beach Park soon.
The clinic will be held Saturday, June 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Crystal Beach Lake.
Children ages 6 to 15 are eligible to attend, but must be accompanied by an adult.
Rhonda DeVor, family and consumer science extension educator, said attendees will learn about the ecology and skills of fishing, fish identification, fishing ethics, knot tying and how to cast properly.
"Then we allow them to do some fishing on their own on a catch and release basis," DeVor said.
Fishing rods, bobbers, weights, hooks and bait will be provided until noon.
Following the fishing, the young anglers will receive certificates of attendance and are invited to enjoy a free lunch.
"It's a family based event to get people out and do family stuff and recreation and have a good time and learn a little in the process," DeVor said.
The event is sponsored by the Woodward County Oklahoma Home & Community Education (OHCE), the Woodward County OSU Extension Office, Woodward AMBUCS and the Oklahoma Aquatic Education Department.
However, DeVor gave special recognition to Ronnie Brittain and his fellow AMBUCS for their assistance in leading the various fishing workshops.
"Without them, we wouldn't be able to do it," she said of the youth fishing clinic.
To register for the fishing clinic call the OSU Extension office at 254-3391. Those interested must register by May 31.
