The students of Cedar Heights Elementary School will be participating in an Oklahoma land run reenactment Friday at the school.
The official “running for the claim” will occur at 11 a.m.
Cedar Heights Librarian Connie Wise said each assigned family group will begin to search for their claim at the signal. Once the claim is found the fourth grade student in the group will register the claim while the rest of the group learns about making improvements to the land.
Students will also learn about boomers and sooners and other historical aspects of land runs and eat a picnic lunch on their land claims.
Plains Indians and Pioneers Museum Curator Ian Swart will attend the event and deliver a dramatic first person presentation of the historical land run experiences.
Boyd Hughes and David Criswell will also attend and give a calf roping demonstration.
Students are encouraged to dress as pioneers the day of the event.
