The Woodward Senior Center will be holding its Annual Fall Bazaar this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A number of handmade items will be up for sale as part of the Bazaar, according to Senior Center Coordinator Brigetta Wilson.

These items include dish rags, pot holders and other items made by the senior citizens themselves, Wilson said.

A number of items will also be up for raffle during the Bazaar, she said, noting that visitors to the Bazaar can purchase chances to win a quilt, afghan and pillow, or ceramic nativity set, she said. Raffle chances cost $1 each or $5 for six and the prizes will be awarded during the Woodward Senior Center’s December birthday dinner on Dec. 18.

Saturday’s Bazaar also includes a bake sale, which will feature a number of unique items, such as cinnamon cucumber pickles and zucchini pickles, Wilson said.

However, there will still be plenty of the good old bake sale standbys such as cakes, cookies, breads and pies on offer, she said.

In fact, Wilson noted that “there will be lots of apple pies.”

Senior Center staff and volunteers always spend the Friday before the Bazaar baking dozens of pies for the bake sale, she said, noting that this year will be no different.

Besides the opportunity to take home a delicious desert or snack from the bake sale, Wilson said visitors to the Bazaar will also have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious stew lunch for only $6.

The luncheon, which begins at 11 a.m., includes stew, cornbread, drink and a choice of pie, either pumpkin chiffon or chocolate layer pie, she said, promising that it will be “the best stew and cornbread you ever had.”

Proceeds from the luncheon, bake sale and Bazaar as a whole will go “to help fund the senior center,” Wilson said.

She explained that the center is only able to keep operating because of the donations it receives, grants from organizations like the United Fund, and fundraisers like the Bazaar.

“That’s just how we function,” she said, noting that she hopes the community will come out to show its support this Saturday.
