Michael Duane Howard, 58-year-old Woodward resident, died July 17, 2007 after a short battle with cancer. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2007 in the Elmwood Cemetery with Melvin Rittenhouse officiating. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Michael Duane Howard was born on Feb. 26, 1949 in Mooreland, Okla. to Duane Billy and Mary Maxine (Munson) Howard. He was reared on the ranch north of Woodward. He attended Woodward Public Schools. Mike won the World Championship in the Little Britches Calf Roping at the age of 16. He worked as a race horse trainer throughout the United States.

He is survived by one son Justin Howard of Woodward; one brother Jeff Howard of Woodward; his aunt Pat Faulk of Woodward; uncles, Richard Dies of Buffalo; Bob Howard of Crescent; Jim Howard of Scott City, Kan.; several cousins and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his maternal grandparents, Harold and Pearl Munson and his paternal grandparents, Otis and Juanita Howard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Cancer Research or Valley Hope.
