Funeral services for Leo Gartrell, 82-year-old rural Fargo resident, will be Friday, April 21, 2006 at 10 a.m., in the Fort Supply Baptist Church. The Rev. Jerry Brinkman and the Rev. Bill Tindell will officiate. Interment will be in the Fargo Cemetery under the direction of Johnson’s Good Samaritan Funeral Service.

Leo Merle Gartrell was born Sept. 19, 1923 on the family farm, northeast of Fargo, to Oliver Dean and Bessie Mae (Hamrick) Gartrell. He grew up there and attended the Fort Supply schools. On Feb. 2, 1944, he was married to Luella Faye Mitch in Woodward. Leo served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during WWII. Following the war, Leo and Luella made their home on their farm northeast of Fargo where they engaged in a lifetime of farming and ranching.

Leo was a member of the Fort Supply Baptist Church where he had served as Treasurer for many years. He was also on the board of the Fargo Cemetery Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Opal Holmes; five brothers, O.D. (Roy), Everett, Ralph, Elmer and an infant brother.

He is survived by his wife, Luella, of the home; a daughter and her husband, Merla and Bob Gilliam, of Woodward; two sons and their wives, Larry and Elaine Gartrell of Woodward, and Gary and Irene Gartrell of Fargo; two granddaughters and their husbands, Teresa and Dean Pond, and Kristi and Ken Morrison, all of Woodward; five grandsons, Darrin Gartrell and his fiance Andrea Weizbrod, Gary Don Gartrell and his wife, Brenda, Jason Gartrell and his fiance Brandi Brittain, Jody Gartrell and his fiance Nikki Snell, all of Woodward, and Brett Gilliam and his wife, Michelle, of Enid, Oklahoma; two step granddaughters, Holly Brown of Elk City, Okla., and Susan Gilliam of Edmond, Okla.; 12 great grandchildren; 10 step-great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one step great-great grandchild; a sister and her husband, Verda and Roy Coyer, of Beaver, Okla.; and other relatives.

Memorials may be made to the Fort Supply Baptist Church Building Fund.
