The Woodward Education Association is gearing up for the 2019 Teddy Bear Toss. This will be the second time the association has held the event after great success last year.

“During the event last year, we were able to collect hundreds of new stuffed critters that were donated to AllianceHealth Woodward hospital for children receiving emergency medical services,” said Woodward Public School Community Manager Amy Whitewater. “We call them Boo-Hoo Buddies.”

The Teddy Bear Toss is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 12, during halftime of the varsity girls basketball game and Senior Night.

“Bring a new stuffed animal, and at the announcer’s command toss it from the bleachers down to the floor,” Whitewater said. “Please help us spread the word.

For each stuffed animal a person brings, they will be entered into a drawing for various gift cards from businesses in the community, according to Whitewater.

The game will begin at 6:30 p.m. and general admission is $5.

Anyone wishing to donate a stuffed animal but can’t attend the game may drop the animal off at any Woodward school site.

“We hope the stuffed animals will give a little bit of comfort for children when they’re in the emergency room,” Whitewater said. “A hospital can be a scary place, especially when it’s an emergency situation, and the stuffed animals give little patients something soft and snuggly to focus on, and will maybe make the situation less frightening.”
