Making her way to the stage to the sound of thunderous applause, Rachel Beck was all smiles as she accepted the 2019 Woodward Teacher of the Year Award.
Beck was announced as the winner of the much anticipated Teacher of the Year event Wednesday evening at Woodward High School. Beck is in her fourth year as a teacher in the Woodward School District. Woodward’s 2018 Teacher of the Year Wendy Oates passed the bell on to the newest Teacher of the Year.
Beck teaches sixth grade language arts at Woodward Middle School and attributes her success to her Woodward teachers growing up.
“I think probably the most important thing - I grew up in Woodward, I’m a product of good Woodward teachers and I wouldn’t be the teacher I am today if I didn’t have those wonderful teachers,” Beck said.
She was championed by her student Avery Case who had only good things to say about her teacher.
“While some teachers might just tell you what to do, Ms. Beck has always made sure that she reaches us on our level and help us to understand what she is teaching us that day,” Case said. “She seems to want to be there and wants us to succeed.”
Upon accepting her award, Beck expressed deep gratitude towards her students and fellow staff members for their support saying, “I couldn’t do it without them.”
