It was like Christmas in May.

That’s how Forrest Rogers described the Woodward Chamber of Commerce Education Committee’s efforts in honor of Teacher Appreciation Day Tuesday.

To show the Chamber’s appreciation for all that those in education do, several committee members spent Tuesday morning presenting Chamber Checks worth $10 each to all the teachers and educational support staff members in Woodward, said Rogers, who is a one of the education committee chairs.

Altogether the committee handed out 400 checks to the faculty and staff of not only all the schools in the Woodward Public School System, but also the faculty and staff of High Plains Technology Center and the local Northwestern Oklahoma State University campus, he said.

“It was a lot of fun handing the checks out,” Rogers said, noting that the teachers were “very appreciative.”

Not only is it a fun project, but it is an important project, he said, noting that those in the education field “have so much influence on the future of our nation.”

“We feel like they do so much,” Rogers said.

Since the education committee was just rejuvenated this past year, he noted that this was the first year for the committee to participate in Teacher Appreciation Day by presenting the Chamber Checks.

However, considering its success, Rogers said he “feel(s) like this could be something we do every year.”

He noted that “it is a real good way to end the school year by telling the teachers and the support staff how much we appreciate them.”
