Woodward, Okla. — Forgan’s boys and Shattuck’s girls will be looking to defend their Oil Center Classic championships this weekend.

The 3-day touranment tips off today (Jan. 10) at 10 a.m. in Boomer Fieldhouse. There will be 24 games played over the 3 days

Forgan has won 3 straight Oil Center championships and is ranked No. 1 in Class B once again. The Bulldogs have battled injury problems but are 9-1 after a win at Buffalo on Tuesday night.

The lone loss was to the Hooker Bulldogs, a 7-2 team in Class 2A.

Forgan’s top challenge could once again be Mooreland, the team it beat in the last 2 championship games.

Also don’t discount the Beaver Dusters who are off to a 7-3 start.

Shattuck’s girls are solid once again, but the top seed coming into this year’s tournament is 9-0 Mooreland.

Both teams are ranked in their respective classes. Mooreland is No. 15 in Class 2A and Shattuck is ranked 16th in Class B.

Forgan and Sharon-Mutual are other highly-regarded teams in the field. Forgan is ranked 13th and Sharon-Mutual 18th in Class B.

In the Fargo Tourament the most anticipated matchup could come Saturday in the boys championship game.

The host Bearcats and unbeaten Tyrone are the top 2 seeded teams in the tournament and pretty strong favorites to reach the championship game.

Fargo, a state tournament team last year, is 10-3 and ranked 4th in Class B. The Bearcats have played a rugged schedule, splitting with No. 3 Arnett and losing an overtime game to Class A power Cheyenne.

Tyrone is 10-0 and ranked 13th, but the Bobcats haven’t played anyone ranked in the top 10.

Fort Supply’s young boys team is capable of putting a scare into opponents as well. Balko is another competitive squad.

On the girls side, 4th-ranked Balko is a prohibitive favorite. The Lady Bison, state semifinalists the past 2 years, are 11-0 and have only been tested a couple of times.

There are 4 ranked boys teams in the Ward Center Classic at Seiling.

Once beaten Drummond is ranked 9th in Class A while Laverne is 11th, Seiling 17th and Texhoma 19th. All  4 teams are athletic and explosive.

Drummond won its first 13 games before losing to the Pioneer last week.

Laverne is coming off a win over Seiling earlier this week and Texhoma has split with the Tigers. Seiling also holds a win over Laverne.

The girls field also features a number of solid teams. Leedey is ranked 8th and Vici 11th in Class B and host Seiling is ranked 15th in Class A.

Defending Class A champion Cheyenne headlines a strong boys field in Arapaho that includes perennial power Fort Cobb-Broxton, always tough Chattanooga and the Hooker Bulldogs, a solid Class 2A club.

Cherokee’s girls field includes competitive teams in DCLA, Burlington and Pond Creek-Hunter, among others.
