Boomers win tournament

Woodward, Okla. — For the third year in a row, the Boomers are champions of their season-opening tournament.

Woodward defeated Arnett 9-1 in the second championship game that ended after midnight on Saturday. Hillary Hurst was the winning pitcher.

In the first championship game, Arnett posted an 11-4 win. Dani Puckett got the pitching victory.

Arnett lost the tournament opener to Alva, then won 4 straight elimination games, including a 3-1 victory over Alva, to reach the finals.

Woodward opened with an 11-0 win over Waynoka, then edged Vici 5-3 and beat Alva 6-2 in the winners' bracket final, scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning.

Adyson Clark took the win in that game with Courtney Cook getting her second save of the tournament. Hillary Hurst, Haylee Bates and Clarissa Coleman had key hits in the inning and Laira Fowler and Heidi McEwen also drove in runs.

Alva finished 3rd in the tournament and Seiling was 4th.

Woodward, 5-3, will host Arnett again on Monday, then go to Guymon on Tuesday.
