Traveler Majors split tournament games

Woodward, Okla. — LAWTON - The Traveler Majors split a pair of games in the Bragging Rights Tournament Thursday, edging the Southwest Shockers Black team 3-2 and losing 3-1 to the Oklahoma City Ambassadors.

Woodward plays 2 more games today against the Southwest Shockers Gray team at 12:30 p.m. and the Southwest Shockers Red team at 3 p.m.

Bracket play in the tournament begin on Sunday with the quarterfinals.

Games are being played at Lawton High School.

Leno Ramirez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Travelers beat the Shockers.

Dakota Woods scored the winning run after leading off with a single and stealing second base. Zach Fowler followed with a hit and Francisco Alvarez walked to load the bases. Three pitches later, Ramirez was hit.

Woodward took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Thomas Sander walked and scored on a double by Woods. Two outs later, Ramirez doubled home Woods. Ramirez had 3 hits in the game.

The Shockers tied the game with 2 runs in the fifth off Traveler starter Dalton Shalberg.

Shalberg pitched into the seventh inning. Ramirez worked the final 2 outs of the seventh and got the victory when the Travelers scored in the bottom half.

In the Ambassadors game the Travelers had opportunities early, getting runners in scoring position in the first 3 innings but only plating one run, that on an RBI single by Ramirez that brought in Fowler.

The Ambassadors scored in the first, third and sixth innings.

Clayton Brewster started and took the loss. He was relieved 3 batters into the second inning by Giles Fox, who pitched the rest of the game.
