Boomers host Clinton for homecoming games

Woodward, Okla. — After playing almost the entire month on the road, the Boomer basketball teams close out January by hosting Clinton tonight.

Game time is 6:30 p.m. for the girls with the boys contest following.

It is also homecoming night for the Boomers with ceremonies planned at halftime of the boys game.

Woodward’s boys cracked the top 10 in Class 4A this week and carry a 13-1 record into their second meeting of the season with Clinton.

In the first game, the Boomers used a big fourth quarter to pull away for a 57-45 decision. It was the first game back for Woodward after a long holiday break.

Clinton has just 2 wins this season, over Classen and McLoud. The Tornadoes have only had one other chance at a win but lost to Weatherford in overtime.

Woodward has won 5 in a row.

The Boomer girls and Clinton have split games this season.

Clinton won on its home court 38-31 in early January, then just 3 days later the Boomers edged Clinton 49-47 in the Weatherford Tournament.

Woodward is 3-11 on the season while Clinton is 5-9. Each team has an impressive win in recent outings, the Boomers over Newcastle and Clinton over Altus.

The area schedule tonight is relatively busy.

It includes Arnett at Buffalo, Okeene at Fairview, Leedey at Fargo-Gage, Fort Supply at Shattuck, Hardesty at Freedom, Beaver at Laverne, Mooreland at Waynoka, Canton at Vici, Chisholm at Alva, Turpin at Forgan, Boise City at Texhoma and Tyrone at Keyes.

Tip time everywhere except Freedom is 6:30 p.m. The Freedom action starts at 6 p.m.
