Wilson sets 2A record in long jump

Woodward, Okla. — Mooreland’s Kayla Wilson set the Class 2A state record in winning the long jump state championship at Carl Albert Friday,

Wilson leaped 18-10 3/4 for the championship and record. Kadee Kenny of Mooreland was 5th.

In Class A, John Custar of Sharon-Mutual won a third consecutive championship in the shot put with a toss of 57-07.

Kanani Jones of Fort Supply-Buffalo won the girls shot put with a throw of 35-8.

Another high finish was provided by Laverne’s Tanner Allen, who was second in the pole vault.

Some other results on Friday included:

Girls high jump - Julia Cottom of Sharon-Mutual third and Olivia Little of Sharon-Mutual fourth.

Girls 3200 relay - Sharon-Mutual third and Laverne sixth.

Boys 3200 relay - Laverne, fifth.

Boys 3200 meter run - Andy Dominguez of Laverne, sixth.

Girls 3200 meter run - Jeanna Baker of Laverne, sixth.

Boys shot put - Mario-Jaquez of Buffalo-Fort Supply, fifth. Girls shot put - Bailey Rankin of Waynoka, sixth.

Boys pole vault - David Oden, Buffalo-Fort Supply, fifth.

In the Class 4A meet at Ardmore, Woodward’s Micah Key took third place with a jump of 20-4.5.

Kee, a junior, finished behind Papi White of Seminole at 22-6 and Skyler Oren of Sallisaw who went 21-3.5.

Area athletes added several more strong finishes on Saturday.

Cooper Free of Sharon-Mutual took second place in both Class A hurdles races - 110 meters and 300 meters.

Jones got her second medal of the state meet by placing second in the discus throw. In the boys discus, Jarren Nine of Laverne was second and Jaquez fourth.

Leedey’s girls 400 meter relay team was sixth.

In 2A, Mooreland’s  Cassidy Fisher was third in the shot put and Kenny sixth in the high  jump.
