Boomers roll past Northwest Classen, 50-6

Woodward, Okla. — Woodward scored early and often to crush Northwest Classen 50-6 in non-district football action at Boomer Stadium Friday.

It was at the Boomers home opener and they gave a large crowd plenty to cheer about.

Scoring on 5 consecutive possessions in the first half, the Boomers led 35-0 before Northwest Classen got a late first-half touchdown, after the Boomers had already began substituting.

Woodward then scored on the first 2 possessions in the second half to hit the 50-point mark for the first time since scoring 56 points in a win over Guymon in 2011.

Kale Hixon continued his series of impressive early season performances. The senior quarterback ran for 220 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 11 carries, and threw a pair of touchdown passes to Kaleb Roach.

Micah Kee and Dakota Taylor also had touchdowns for the Boomers, who are averaging nearly 44 points a game.

Woodward raised its record to 2-1 going into District 4A-1 play where the Boomers host Piedmont next week for homecoming.

The scoring started early and didn't slow down on Friday as the Boomers dominated in every area.

On the Boomers fourth play, Hixon scrambled and hit Roach for a 51-yard touchdown pass.

Northwest nearly answered on its next possession when Eric McGee hit David Jones for 49 yards to the Boomer 18. Three plays went nowhere, though, and a field goal try was partially blocked.

Woodward quickly responded, going 78 yards in 7 plays. Hixon had a 50-yard run that set up his 3-yard score.

After a Viking punt, the Boomers went 62 yards in 4 plays to make it 21-0 on a 6-yard pass from Hixon to Roach.

Kyler Ferguson returned a Viking fumble 35 yards to the 7-yard line to set up the next score, a 7-yard run by Kee, who had 63 yards rushing in the game.

Jason Alexander's 40-yard punt return set up the Boomers on the Knights 12 and they scored in 3 plays with Dakota Taylor powering in from the 4-yard line.

Alexanders' fifth consecutive extra point made it 35-0.

After getting a turnover, the Knights drove for their only score behind the running of Fre'Darian Ashley, who went in from the 2-yard line. The conversion failed.

Ashley was the Knights most effective player on offense, rushing for 122 yards on 27 carries.

The second half was more of the same for the Boomers as they took the opening kickoff and went 44 yards in 5 plays with Hixon scoring on a 13-yard run. Will Shirkey added the extra point.

The Knights then drove nearly the length of the field before the Boomers stopped T-Auboleik Vick on a fourth down play at the 4.

Six plays later, the Boomers were in the end zone again, covering 96 yards. Hixon had a 21-yard run to start the drive, Kee had 23-yarder and Hixon got the final 33 yards. Alexander ran in the conversion for a 50-6 lead.

Northeast moved into Woodward territory one more time but Shirkey picked off a pass with under 30 seconds left to end that chance.

The Boomers finished with over 400 yards in total offense.

Notes: Woodward's next opponent, Piedmont, beat Western Heights 42-12 on Friday for its first win of the year. Some of the other District 4A-1 teams turned in wins as well includiing Anadarko and Clinton. Weatherford lost a 21-14 game to powerhouse McGuinness.
