Woodward, Okla. — Middle School teams to host Elk City

Woodward Middle School football teams will play for the second time this week as they host Elk City tonight at Boomer Stadium.

Start time is 5:30 p.m. for the 7th graders with the 8th graders following. This is the first of 2 meetings between the schools this season.

Woodward's teams are coming off victories over Mooreland on Monday.

In the 7th grade game, the Boomers won 30-0 with Victor Parada scoring twice and Will Hoffman and Kole Marlatt once each. Parada caught 60 yard touchdown pass from Marlatt and had a 59-yard run. Hoffman had a 24-yard run and Marlatt a 40-yard interception return.

Woodward's eighth graders won 16-14.

Slayden Covalt had both touchdowns on a 2-yard run and a 23-yard pass from Seth Sims.

In games against Clinton earlier this year, the Boomer 7th graders won 22-6 with Parada scoring twice and Marlatt once. Clinton won the 8th grade game 20-14 in overtime. Skaggs had both Woodward touchdowns.

Boomer softball drops 2 games

The Boomer softball team dropped 2 games in Mooreland on Tuesday and saw its record dip to 14-14.

Woodward lost 6-4 to Mooreland and 6-5 to Fairview.

Against Mooreland, the Boomers fell behind 6-0 after 3 innings and rallied with a run in the sixth and 3 more in the seventh inning but fell short.

McKenzie Hunter had a pair of hits for the Boomers and Devre Newby, Karlie Whitworth and Hunter drove in runs.

Eyrika Brandenberg led Mooreland with 3 hits, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Hillary Hurst started and took the loss. Brooke Tate was the winning pitcher.

The Fairview game was back and forth with the Yellowjackets scoring the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Adyson Clark took the loss in this game.

Offensively, the Boomers had 5 hits, one each by Newby, Whitworth, Jessica Burkhart, Hurst and Heidi McEwan. Hadlee Harmon, Lindsey Custer, Kameron Pope, Burkhart and McEwan scored runs.

The Boomers open play in the Elk City Tournament today at 10 a.m. against Sentinel.

Also on Tuesday, Mooreland edged Fairview, 3-2
