Boomers host 6-0 Anadarko

Woodward, Okla. — A chance to move into a tie for first place in District 4A-1 is on the line for the Boomers tonight as they host league-leading Anadarko.

Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Boomer Stadium. Homecoming ceremonies will be held before the game.

Anadarko is 3-0 in district games this year - the Warriors have a 21-game winning streak over the past 2 seasons - and comes into the contest off a rugged 28-21 victory over Clinton last week.

The Boomers had a big road win at Elgin last week, defeating the Owls 37-35 on a 27-yard field goal by Jesus Munoz with 10 seconds left in the game.

Woodward is 2-1 in district games.

An upset win over the Warriors would likely lead to at a 4-way tie for first in the district as Weatherford and Clinton are both expected to be 3-1 after tonight.

Historically, the Boomers have played well against Anadarko, winning 3 of 4 games including both times the teams met at Boomer Stadium.

But the Warriors are in one of the best stretches of football in school history, going 15-0 to win Class 3A last year and starting 6-0 this season with several new faces.

A powerful running game averaging over 300 yards a night is the Warriors’ strongest suit.

Defensively, Anadarko had allowed 36 points all season and 21 of those were to Clinton last week.

The Boomers also have a strong running game utilizing Ky Merriman, Xavier Vo, Kyler Ferguson and Dakota Taylor. Taylor had 3 touchdowns against Elgin last week.

The ability to throw is also there and Kaleb Roach is a receiver the Boomers can go to for big plays. Ty Richey is another threat at tight end.

Other 4A-1 matchups tonight have Weatherford at Elk City, Piedmont at Clinton and Elgin at Cache.

Tonight’s area schedule includes:

District A-1

Fairview at Mooreland, Okeene at OBA, Hooker at Beaver, Texhoma at Turpin.

District B-1

Garber at Laverne, Canton at Seiling.

District C-1

Buffalo at Sharon-Mutual, Waynoka at Forgan, Balko at Goodwell, Tyrone at Boise City.

Mooreland is unbeaten at home this year and will try to stay that way against an explosive Fairview squad averaging 50 points a game on offense.

The Yellowjackets rolled up 71 points against the Hooker Bulldogs a week ago.

The Bearcats have some ability on offense as well behind the running of Keiton Crawford and Bryce Gregory. When they need a big-play in the passing game, the Bearcats will go deep to Landon Peach.

Mooreland is 2-1 in the district and can move into the thick of the title race with a win.

At Laverne, the undefeated Tigers will face a Garber team coming off a tough loss to Pond Creek-Hunter.

Garber, though, won its first 5 games of the season and remains a capable opponent.

Both teams are prolific on offense as Laverne averages right at 56 points a game and Garber 46 points a night. The Tigers, however, are just allowing 10 points a game on defense.

At Seiling, the host club and Canton are both needing a win to stay in the Class B playoff picture.

Forgan and Balko look poised to stay undefeated in District C-1 against Waynoka and Goodwell, respectively.

The big game in the district has Buffalo traveling to Sharon-Mutual.

Since a week 2 loss to Forgan, the Trojans have played lights out, especially on the defensive side. Sharon-Mutual has allowed just 72 points all season and 32 of them came in the loss. Buffalo is off to a strong 4-2 start, 4-1 in the district.

The winner will be positioned to possibly host a playoff game in November.

Game time everywhere is 7:30 p.m.
