Sharon-Mutual gets key win

Woodward, Okla. — Sharon-Mutual took an early 8-0 lead and went on defeat Balko 20-6 in a critical District C-1 football game in Mutual on Thursday.

The Trojans raised their season record to 7-1 and set themselves up for a possible second place finish in the district. Balko also has one district loss but still must play undefeated Forgan.

John Custar’s 1-yard run and a conversion by Cooper Free gave the Trojans an 8-0 lead in the first period.

Balko came back on Taner Hayley’s 1-yard run but the conversion failed.

Free and Dustin Baker connected for a 35-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter and Sharon-Mutual led 14-6.

In the third period Free scored on a 5-yard run to make it 20-6.

Sharon-Mutual controlled the ball and piled up 397 yards in total offense to 187 for the Bison.

Forgan, Shattuck and Tyrone were other winners in games on Thursday. In Class B, Laverne defeated Merritt and Pond Creek-Hunter beat Seiling to stay on track for a week 10 showdown.
