Boomer baseball team wins opener
BLACKWELL – Francisco Alvarez tossed a 3-hitter and struck out 15 as the Boomers opened the baseball season with a 1-0 win over the host Maroons Thursday.
Alvarez also walked 3 over the 7 inning contest.
The Boomers scored the only run of the game in the fifth inning when Garrett Hines was hit by a pitch, Lane Reazin singled and Hines later scored on a throwing error.
The Boomers had a chance to score more in the inning but left the bases loaded.
Woodward had 6 hits in the game.
Today, the Boomers will play the Oklahoma City Broncos and Kingfisher in the Kingfisher Festival. Game times have been changed to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
On Monday, the Boomers travel to Perryton, Texas.
Woodward’s slow pitch softball team opened its season on Friday and defeated Shattuck 7-6 and 4-3.
The Boomers go to Shattuck on Monday.
Boys soccer team goes to 2-0
The Boomer boys soccer team routed Kingfisher 8-1 on Friday for its second victory of the season.
Alex Castruita and Jesus Munoz scored 2 goals each for Woodward.
Chandler Goodwin, Gabriel Gaytan, Jason Alexander and Jose Villasana also scored goals.
In the girls match, the Boomers lost to Kingfisher, 2-1. Gaby Ways had the Boomer goal.
Woodward will host Enid on Thursday.
