Traveler Majors extend winning streak to 7 games

The Traveler Majors  continued their strong start to the baseball season by sweeping a doubleheader from the Oklahoma City Bulls at Fuller Park Tuesday.

In their home openers, the Travelers defeated the Bulls 7-4 and 8-3, improving to 7-0 on the season.

Next up for Woodward is an early-season home festival. The Travelers play Colorado Khaos at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Other teams in the festival include Real Tree, Oklahoma Outlaws and the Southwest Shockers.

Grant Schamburg got the win in game one in relief of Zach Johnson. Schamburg (2-0) pitched 3.2 innings after coming in for Johnson in the middle of the fourth inning. He struck out 3 and gave up hits. Johnson had 6 walks and 5 strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

Oklahoma City scored 3 runs in that fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead before the Travelers answered in the bottom half with 4 runs.

Hits by Garrett Collins and Beau Srader along with Dalton Gore getting hit by a pitch loaded then bases. Easton Palmer drew a two-out walk to bring in a run, then Schamburg brought in two more runs with a single.

The Bulls closed the gap to 6-4 with a run in the fifth inning and Woodward added a run in the sixth to complete the scoring.

The Travelers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning with hits from Matt Martin and Collins, a walk and a ground ball.

In game two, the Travelers scored 5 runs in the third inning and never trailed.

Srader started the the rally with a double and Garrett Gaunt, Easton Palmer, Schamburg, Xavier Lanham and Jason Nichols all singled to put the Travelers in command.

The Bulls answered with 3 runs in the top of the fifth inning on 3 hits and a walk.

Woodward came right back with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning, 2 on a double by Nichols.

Dillon Mecham pitched 4.1 innings for his first win of the summer and Gaunt threw in relief for the save.
