Traveler Minors, Shockers split doubleheader

Woodward, Okla. — The Traveler Minors and Southwest Shockers traded run-rule decisions in baseball action at Fuller Park on Friday.

Southwest Shockers used a 7-run sixth inning to take the opener 12-3 while the Travelers won the nightcap 15-3 in five innings.

Gage Owen was the winning pitcher in game 2, scattering 6 hits.

Woodward used 2 big innings for the win, an 8-run second frame and 7-run fourth inning.

Down 2-0, the Minors found their offense in the second inning.

Robbie Burris walked and scored on Kyler Ferguson's triple. Owen singled off the pitcher's glove to make it 2-2. A hit-batsman and error set up Beau Srader, who tripled home 2 runs. Zac Johnson hit an RBI single and Chandler Salinas blasted a 2-run homer.

In the fourth, the Minors scored 7 unearned runs with 2 outs. Johnson had a key 2-run double and Damian Rhoades, Burris and Ferguson all drove in runs as well.

Woodward will travel to Enid on Sunday for a 4 p.m. twinbill against the Enid Minors.

The first game on Friday was close until the Shockers broke free in the 6th inning with 7 runs.

Burris started and took the loss.

Woodward had an early lead, but the Shockers took a 5-3 advantage through 5 innings.

On Thursday, the Minors beat Alva twice at Fuller Park, 11-3 and 7-2.

Johnson was the winning pitcher in the opener. Cash Pool had 3 runs-batted-in during the game and Troy Reddoch had a 2-run single in the decisive fifth inning when Woodward scored 6 times. Garrett Hines also drove in a run.

In the second game, Ferguson was the winning pitcher.

After dropping their first 2 games in the College World Series Tournament in Omaha, the Traveler Majors posted a pair of wins on Friday, defeating Minot, N. D. 10-6 and Arden Hills, Minn. 6-3.

Woodward will close out the tournament with a game at noon on Saturday against Sioux Falls, S. D.

Dustin Cook was the winning pitcher against Minot after relieving Thomas Sander in the first inning.

The Travelers trailed until the 5th inning when they scored 5 times. Bryson Lierle's 2-run double was the key blow and Zach Fowler added an RBI double.

In the sixth, they added 3 more runs as Cullen Mack had a double and Dakota Woods a hit.

Minot scored 3 runs in the 7th to make the final score closer.

Details were not immediately available on the Arden Hills game.
