Travelers win big in tourney opener

Woodward, Okla. — Oklahoma City – The Traveler Majors opened pool play in the Justin Sullivan Memorial Baseball Tournament with a bang Thursday.

Woodward routed the Oklahoma City Roughnecks, 15-0 in a game stopped after 3 innings.

The win evened the Travelers season record at 11-11 with a pair of games on tap Friday. Woodward plays the Davey Jones Rangers at 10 a.m. and the Midwest Blacksox at 4:45 p.m. at Oklahoma City University.

Against the Roughnecks, Thomas Sander faced just 10 batters, allowing one hit and striking out 3.

Woodward scored all 15 runs in the first inning, sending 19 batters to the plate.

Francisco Alvarez doubled, tripled and drove in 4 runs, Dalton Reed had three RBI and Garret Collins homered and drove in 2 runs. Bryson Lierle also drove in 2 runs.

Woodward had 8 hits in the game.

On Wednesday, the Travelers defeated the Cleveland County Boomers 11-4.

Dalton Shalberg started and was the winning pitcher. Woodward used 6 pitchers in the game.

Offensively, the Travelers scored in 5 of the 7 innings.

Alvarez, Cullen Mack, Korey Floyd, Reed and Leno Ramirez all had 2 hits. Collins drove in 3 runs and Reed 2.
