Travelers go 1-1 on the road

Woodward, Okla. — OKLAHOMA CITY – In a continuation of their up and down season, the Traveler Majors split a pair of games with the Oklahoma City Drillers on Tuesday.

Woodward won the opener 9-7 in 8 innings, then dropped an 8-4 verdict in the second game.

The Travelers begin play in the Woodward Fourth of July Festival at 6 p.m. on Wednesday against Perryton, Texas.

The festival gets in full gear on Thursday and goes through Sunday.

A 3-run eighth inning gave the Travelers the win in game one against the Drillers.

Dalton Reed's one-out single got the rally going for Woodward, then Matt Martin singled. Thomas Sander's RBI single broke the 6-6 tie, and Dakota Woods followed with an RBI single to make it 8-6. Sander eventually scored on a wild pitch.

The Drillers got one run in the bottom of the eighth inning and put the tying run on base before winning pitcher Leno Ramirez induced a ground ball for the final out.

After building a 6-2 lead through four innings, the Travelers saw the Drillers score 4 times in the fifth to tie things up.

Francisco Alvarez, Korey Floyd and Garret Collins all had RBI doubles for Woodward.

Kyle Stevens started and pitched into the fifth inning.

In the second game, the Travelers fell behind early and a late rally came up short in the 8-4 loss.

Holden Lyons started and took the loss as the Travelers used 4 pitchers in the game.

Down 8-1 going into the seventh, the Travelers put up 3 runs as Dakota Woods drove in a pair of with the only hit of the inning. Leno Ramirez had an RBI ground out.

Collins doubled the second inning and scored on a single by Reed for the other Traveler run.

Floyd had a triple in the third inning, but was stranded.

Woodward's Minors hosted Dodge City, Kan. on Tuesday and suffered through a rough evening.

Dodge City won the first game 13-1, then won the second game 17-8.

Woodward rallied from an 8-2 deficit to tie the game 8-8 in the fourth inning and missed a chance to go ahead in the fifth.

Then in the top of the sixth inning, Dodge City scored 9 times to ice the game.
