Laverne, Sharon-Mutual post opening wins.

Mooreland makes it 2 in row over Sayre.

Woodward, Okla. — Laverne and Sharon-Mutual won their high-profile season openers on Friday night and the Mooreland Bearcats also started the seasons with a solid outing.

Laverne led Shattuck just 14-12 at halftime, before pulling away to a 44-18 win. The Tigers are ranked No. 1 in Class B while Shattuck has won 7 Class C state championships over the past 11 years.

Sharon-Mutual, ranked as one of the top 3 or 4 teams in Class C, trailed Seiling 14-8 after one quarter, but got things going in the second and third periods to pull away 46-20.

And Mooreland handled Sayre 27-6, its second straight opening night win over the Eagles.

Beaver also got a nice win on opening night, beating Stanton County, Kan., 19-0 on the road.



Laverne 44, Shattuck 18

A 2-point conversion was all that separated the teams at intermission, but Laverne controlled the final 2 quarters, outscoring Shattuck 30-8.

The Tigers had 450 yards in total offense and scored on a number of big plays.

Senior running back Trevor Harris had touchdowns of 41, 37, 66 and 80 yards on the ground and also caught a 69-yard scoring toss from Tucker Rolf.

Dalton Birch had a 74-yard scoring run.

Shattuck's scores came on a 12-yard pass from Beau Srader to Braxton Bruce, a 3-yard pass from Srader to Trevor Carpenter and a 1-yard run by Skyler Pshigoda.

The Indians were able to move the ball, compiling 265 yards in total offense.



Sharon-Mutual 46, Seiling 20

After several lead exchanges in the first half, Sharon-Mutual, semifinalists in Class C the past 2 years, pulled away.

Seiling, though, score first on a 25-yard interception return by Britt Shuck.

Sharon-Mutual answered with a 3-yard run from Konner Harris and conversion by Justin Custar to go up 8-6,

Cam Turner caught a 35-yard pass from Shuck and Bart Miller got the conversion as the Wildcats regained a 14-8 lead.

Cooper Free's 10-yard run tied the game.

Seiling again went ahead on a 22-yard by Chris Buckmiller.

But the Wildcats couldn't keep up the scoring pace.

Custar's 32-yard run and Free's conversion made it 22-20 Sharon-Mutual. Custar scored again and Harris converted for a 30-20 halftime lead.

Free and Custar had scoring runs in the second half.

Sharon-Mutual took advantage of its powerful offensive line to pile up 425 of its 445 total yards on the ground.

Most of Seiling's success came in the passing game where the Wildcats had 279 yards.



Mooreland 27, Sayre 6

The Bearcats led from start to finish, taking a 14-0 lead in the first period.

Hunter Miller had touchdown runs for 4 and 11 yards for Mooreland. Blake Murray had an 11-yard touchdown and Kyler Hensley a 50-yard score.

Sayre's touchdown came in the third period.





Beaver 19, Stanton County 0

The Dusters forced 6 turnovers and held their opponent to just 114 total yards in an opening night victory.

David Stout scored on an 8-yard pass from Dylan Cain to give the Dusters a 6-0 lead.

In the third period, Hadley Skaggs had touchdown runs of 13 and 3 yards to complete the scoring.



Okeene 26, Cashion 14

Scott Dobrinski rushed for 4 touchdowns as the Whippets started their year on a strong note.

Okeene built a 14-0 lead at the half andante iced the game on Dobrinski's 4-yard run in the final period.



Cherokee 50, Buffalo 0

The Chiefs, ranked in the top 5 in Class C, ended this one in the third period.

Tanner Ducotecy and Tanner Bowman each had 2 touchdowns for Cherokee, which led 38-0 at the half.
