Woodward, Okla. —
Sharon-Mutual makes a long trip south today to try and claim a spot in the Class C football semifinals for the second year in a row.
The Trojans, 10-1, head to Thackerville, on I-35 just north of the Texas border, for a quarterfinal matchup.
Thackerville also has a significant winning streak with 8 in a row after a loss to Ryan early in the season. A week ago, Thackerville's high-powered offense rolled up 88 points in a win over Bluejacket.
Sharon-Mutual counters with a defense that has allowed just 90 points all season long. Wyatt Barrera leads a balanced unit with 59 tackles and Logan Hunter has 46. Barrera has 4.5 sacks and John Custar 4.
Offensively, the Trojans are as stout as anyone.
Free has thrown for 1,394 yards and 15 scores and has rushed for 1,298 yards and 30 touchdowns. Konnor Harris, Logan Hunter and Dustin Baker have combined for over 1,600 yards and 20 scores.
Up front, Sharon-Mutual is big and strong.
A year ago, Sharon-Mutual defeated Thackerville in the opening round of the playoffs.
The winner of this game will likely get a shot at No. 1-ranked Tipton in next week's semifinals.
Also in Class C, the Forgan Bulldogs go after their second semifinal appearance in 3 years as they host Deer Creek-Lamont.
Forgan is 10-0 and loaded with skill position players led by quarterback Dalton Lemieux who has thrown 22 touchdown passes and ran or 16 more. Trevin Lopez has 21 touchdowns on just 59 carries.
DCLA sports an 8-3 record and won the Class C championship 2 years ago.
The Forgan-DCLA winner meets the Balko-Cherokee winner in the semifinals.
Balko is gunning for its second straight road upset after knocking off Ryan a week ago. Cherokee has outscored opponents by a 594-107 margin in buildings its 11-0 mark.
In Class B, the Laverne Tigers gun for a second consecutive trip to the semifinals as they host Davenport, 9-2.
Laverne has been ranked No. 1 in most Class B polls since early in the season and the Tigers have rarely been pushed in building an 11-0 record.
Trevor Harris and Tucker Rolf headline a big play offense capable of scoring from anywhere on the field and coach Tim Allen has plenty of other weapons to call on as well. The Tigers are also strong on the defensive end, giving up 132 points all season.
Davenport finished second to unbeaten Wetumka in District B-4.
Quarterback Matt Miller has thrown for 1,836 yards and 26 touchdowns while Kevin Thomas is a big-play threat at running back.
The Laverne-Davenport winner will face Garber or Rejoice Christian in the semifinals.
Jordan Avants is a dual threat for Garber while Rejoice Christian relies almost totally on a power running game and defense that has allowed just 82 points this season.
The featured matchup in the class has once-beaten Pond Creek-Hunter at undefeated Wetumka.
In Class A, Texhoma looks to continue its perfect season at home against a dangerous Crescent team that has lost only to unbeaten Cashion.
Fairview travels to face that Cashion club after the Yellowjackets survived a first-round test against Apache with 2 late touchdowns.
Thomas is home to take on Velma-Alma.
In 2A, Hennessey hosts Washington while Alva travels to Frederick.
Game time everywhere is 7:30 p.m.
