Area football roundup - week 9

Woodward, Okla. — Week 9 of the area high school football season offered little in the way of surprises and set up some a couple of major showdowns this coming Friday.

Laverne and Pond Creek Hunter stayed unbeaten and will clash on Laverne's Kilmer Field for the District B-1 championship.

Likewise in C-1, Shattuck and Sharon-Mutual won handily and will play for the district title at Jack Braud Field.

Okeene wrapped up the A-1 championship with a win over Texhoma on Friday and Fairview defeated Beaver to move into second place.

Laverne 60, Seiling 14

Laverne buried the Wildcats with a  40-point first quarter and cruised to its 23rd consecutive win.

Tucker Rolf tossed touchdown passes of 33 yards to Trevor Harris, 55 yards to Dalton Birch and 26 yards to Lane Lovell, all in the first period.

Also in that quarter, Harris had a 17-yard touchdown run and returned a punt 70 yards for a score.

Hunter Person's 48-yard run put the Tigers up 46-0 early in the second period, but Seiling got a touchdown later in the quarter on a 2-yard run by Cam Turner.

In the third period, Seiling scored again on a pass play.

Laverne finished the game with touchdowns from Colten Person, Dalton Sparks and Lane Fanning.

Pond Creek-Hunter won its game over Canton 50-16

Sharon-Mutual 56, Goodwell 7

This one ended in the third period as the Trojans improved to 9-0.

Cooper Free ran for 6 touchdowns and tossed an 11-yard scoring pass to Ben Cooper.

Free had runs of 65, 15, 1, 15, 61 and 25 yards as the Trojans rolled up 393 yards on the ground and 415 in total offense.

Cooper also had a touchdown on an 85-yard pass interception return.

Goodwell's score came on a  59-yard pass from Omar Ortega to Riley Hines.

Shattuck hammered Boise City 52-12 on Senior Night for the Indians.

Okeene 28, Texhoma 12

Scott Dobrinski scored 4 touchdowns and Okeene never trailed in beating the Red Devils.

Okeene scored first on Dobrinski's 3-yard run, but Texhoma answered on a 35-yard pass from Jacob Test to Nathan Knitig.

Dobrinski then took the ensuing kickoff back 90 yards and it was 14-7.

Okeene opened the gap with touchdowns in the second and third periods before Texhoma tacked on a fourth quarter score.

The Whippets are 6-0 in the district and play at Mooreland next week.
