Traveler Majors 2-0 in Connie Mack Tournament

Woodward, Okla. — ENID - Defending champion Woodward moved into third round of the Connie Mack State Tournament with a 2-0 mark at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

The Traveler Majors edged the Southwest Shockers 2-1 on Friday for their second one-run victory in the tournament so far. Woodward will likely play Saturday night.

On Thursday, the Majors opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over the Enid Minors.

Against the Shockers, Kyle Stevens scattered 4 hits and didn't allow a run in the compete game performance. He struck out 5 and walked 5, and pitched out of trouble several times, including a bases-loaded one-out situation until the fourth.

An unearned run in the third inning gave the Shcokers a lead they held until the fifth.

Dakota Woods and Francisco Alvarez reached with one out, then Jason Nichols walked to load the bases. With 2 outs, Garret Collins delivered a 2-run single that proved to be the game-winner.

The Travelers had just 5 hits in theme, 2 by Alvarez and one each by Collins, Nichols and Beau Srader.

The only other big scoring chance for the Majors came in the third inning when they  left the bases loaded.

Also on Friday, the Traveler Minors dropped a 13-7 decision to top-seeded Oklahoma City Sandlot.

Both Woodward teams are in action Saturday with the Minors facing the Southwest Shockers in an elimination game at noon and the Majors playing the winner of a game between Sandlot and the Enid Majors at 8:30 p.m.

On Thursday, Matt Martin's one-out single scored pinch-runner Thomas Sander with the winning run in a 1-0 victory over the Enid Minors.

An error set up the scoring opportunity.

Martin's single was one of 6 hits for the Majors.

On the mound, Dalton Shalberg allowed just 3 hits and struck out 9 over 7 innings in an impressive outing.

Only one Enid runner reached third base in the game.

Woodward's Minors got a strong performance from Kyler Ferguson on Thursday in beating Southmoore 3-1.
