Boomers head to Enid

Woodward News

Woodward, Okla. — The Boomers end a taxing 6-game road trip tonight with matchups against Class 6A Enid.

Tipoff time for the girls game is 6:30 p.m. with the boys following at approximately 8 p.m. The games are at Northern Oklahoma College on Enid’s east side.

Woodward's boys, 8-9, bring a 2-game winning streak into the contest after taking the consolation championship in the Newcastle  Tournament on Saturday.

The Boomers will be looking for a third straight win over the Plainsmen, who have struggled much of the year. Enid finished 7th in the Deer Creek Tournament over the weekend, beating Yukon on Saturday. The Plainsmen, though, had one other strong outgoing in a 2-point loss to Mustang in the first round of the tournament.

Enid is 5-11 this season.

When the teams met in December, the Boomers broke open a tie game at halftime and rolled to a 20-point victory, 66-46

The Woodward girls, 3-14, face yet another top-10 ranked team in the Enid Pacers, who were 9th in last week and 7th in the rankings on Sunday.

Enid finished second in the Deer Creek Tournament losing in the championship game to host Deer Creek. The Pacers are 13-3 this season.

The Boomers were 6th at Newcastle winning 1 of 3 games.

In the first meeting, Enid won 60-53.

After tonight, the Boomers will have several days off to prepare for a home game with Clinton on Saturday.

The area schedule includes Watonga at Alva, Shattuck at Arnett, Tyrone at Balko, Beaver at Boise City. Laverne at Buffalo, Fairview at Kingfisher, Gage girls at Fargo, Fort Supply at Freedom, Southwestern Heights, Kan., at Forgan, Leedey at Arapaho, Seiling at Mooreland and Aline-Cleo at Sharon-Mutual.

Start time is 6:30 p.m. at all sites.

The Seiling-Mooreland girls game offers up 2 teams with state tournament hopes, Seiling in Class A and Mooreland in 2A. Seiling split a pair of games with Class B's top-ranked Hammon Warriors last week.

Mooreland has lost just once this season.

The boys game could also be exciting as both teams like to get up and down the floor at a quick pace.

At Balko, the host Bison get their fourth chance at Tyrone. The Bobcats won all 3 previous meetings.
