Woodward, Okla. — Woodward's undefeated boys basketball team enter the inaugural MidFirst Classic in Weatherford as the top seed.

The Boomers, 4-0 and ranked 13th in Class 4A, open tournament action against Classen School of Advanced Studies today at 5:30 p.m. at Southwestern's Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.

Southwestern and Weatherford High School are both sites for the tournament.

Woodward's girls will begin tournament play against Blanchard today at 4 p.m. at Southwestern.

On the boys side, the Boomers are one of 3 ranked teams in the tournament, joining Elk City (4A No. 19) and second-seed Heritage Hall (3A No. 11)

The Boomers are coming off a win over Clinton on Tuesday night.

Classen is 1-6 so far this season with the only win over Harding Fine Arts Academy. All 6 losses have been by double digits and the only semi close one was to Capitol Hill.

The remainder of the boys pairings have Weatherford vs. Blanchard, Elk City vs. the Oklahoma City Knights and Heritage Hall vs. Clinton. Weatherford-Blanchard should be the most competitive of the games. Weatherford is 2-5 but had a nice over Elgin on Tuesday and Blanchard, which lost big to Elgin, is 3-2.

Blanchard and Weatherford are on the Boomers' side of the bracket. The semifinal is Friday at 5:30 p.m.

The Boomer girls will try and break into the win column against a Blanchard team that has struggled as well.

Woodward is 0-4 after a loss to Clinton on Tuesday. Blanchard is 1-4 with the win coming against Little Axe.  Both teams have played a difficult schedule, losing to 3 ranked teams in the early going.

The winner will likely face Class 4A's second-ranked Weatherford Lady Eagles on Friday. Weatherford, seeded, first, takes on John Marshall in the first round.

The other half of the bracket has Elk City facing the Oklahoma City Knights and Clinton taking on Heritage Hall.

Tournaments are plentiful across the area this week.

Woodward's hosts the 15th Oil Center Classic at Boomer Fieldhouse with a field that includes Forgan, Beaver, Turpin, Canton, Waynoka, Shattuck, Sharon-Mutual and Mooreland.

Second-ranked Forgan (Class B) is the four-time defending boys champion and carries an undefeated mark into this year's tournament. The top challenge will likely come from Mooreland, which lost to the Bulldogs in the championship game the past 3 years. Mooreland, ranked 19th in Class A, suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday to Oklahoma Bible Academy.

The next most likely challenger is the Beaver Dusters, coming off a win over Tyrone on Tuesday.

Beaver has lost to Forgan twice this season.

Mooreland is the defending champion on the girls side, but the Lady Bearcats are seeded only third this year behind Shattuck and Sharon-Mutual.

Shattuck, runner-up in the Laverne Tournament earlier, is ranked 12th in Class B and Sharon-Mutual is ranked 18th.

At Seiling, the Ward Center Classic includes the host team, Burns Flat-Dill City, Laverne, Leedey, Texhoma, Drummond, Cimarron and Vici.

There are 5 ranked boys teams in the field, Drummond (No. 5 in Class A), Laverne (No. 9 in A), Cimarron (No. 15 in A), Seiling (No. 17 in A) and Leedey (No. 16 in Class B).

Leedey and Cimarron face off in the first round.

On the girls side, ranked teams include Seiling (No. 9 in A), Vici (No. 12 in A), Texhoma (No. 19 in A) and Leedey (No. 17 in B).

The Fargo Tournament could offer up some quality boys semifinal matchups. If form holds, Fort Supply will face Balko and Fargo-Gage will play Tyrone in the semifinals on Friday.

Balko, ranked 14th in Class B, headlines the girls field. The Lady Bison are the defending champions.
