Boomers win slugfest in Perry

Woodward, Okla. — PERRY – The Boomers scored in just 2 innings against Perry on Wednesday night.

Those 2 innings, however, produced 15 runs as Woodward won its opener in the Cesar Tovar Baseball Tournament 15-10.

A 7-run first inning didn't hold up as Perry rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

But an 8-run explosion was more than enough as the Boomers lifted their record to 3-4.

Perry did score 3 in the bottom of the 8th before the Boomers wrapped up the game.

Kyler Ferguson, the 4th Boomer pitcher, was credited with the win. Jake Hughes started and Troy Reddoch and Garrett Hines threw in relief.

In the decisive 8th inning, the Boomers sent 13 batters to the plate. Ferguson delivered a 2-run single to break the 7-7 deadlock, then Reddoch singled in a run. Back-bo-back walks forced in another un and Trevyn Delong then singled home another. A hit by Garrett Owen brought in a run and Gage Owen drew his second walk of the inning to force in a run.

Woodward started the game with a bang. plating 7 runs on 6 hits in the firstinning.

Gage Owen had 2 hits, one a double, and drove in 2 run-in the inning. Francisco Alvarez had a hit and Reddoch singled home 2 runs. Hines and Rayce McEwan also had RBI singles.

Perry battled back with 4 runs in the third inning and 3 more in the seventh. The final 3 runs for the Maroons came in the bottom of the 8th.

The Boomers finished with 13 hits while Perry had 9.

Woodward faces Glencoe on Thursday at 11 a.m., then Alva on Friday at 6:30 p.m. to complete the pool round. The placement games are Saturday.
