Another split for Travelers

Woodward, Okla. — LAWTON – Woodward's Majors wrapped up pool play in the Bragging Rights Tournament with a 2-2 record by splitting a pair of games here Friday.

Woodward dropped a 4-2 game to the Southwest Shockers Black, then exploded for a 12-2 rout of the Southwest Shockers Red. The split leaves the Travelers at 9-10 on the season.

Bracket play in the tournament begins today.

The Southwest Shockers Black team built a 4-0 lead and held off a Traveler rally.

Down 4-0 going into the bottom of the sixth, the Travelers got something going with one out.

Francisco Alvarez drew a walk as did Leno Ramirez. Garrett Collins drove in both with a hit. One out later Bryson Lierle reached on an error to put runners at second a third but a strikeout ended the inning.

The Travelers also stranded 2 runners in the fifth inning.

Thomas Sander pitched into the sixth inning and took the loss with Dustin Cook throwing in relief.

Woodward's offense came alive against the Shockers Red team.

The Travelers scored in five of the six innings and pounded out 13 hits.

Zach Fowler, Alvarez, Sander, Dakota Woods and Harley Herring all had 2 hits for the Travelers.

Alvarez, Cook and Sander each drove in 2 runs.

Woodward took a 5-2 lead after two innings, then added two runs in the third, one in the fourth and four runs in the sixth inning.

Chase Wilson pitched all six innings for the win, striking out 10 and allowing six hits. He didn't walk a batter.
