Woodward, Okla. — Junior clinic set

Boiling Springs Golf Club will hold a free junior golf clinic on Aug. 5.

The clinic goes from 9 a.m. to noon and is conducted by PGA Tour veterans Doug Tewell, Pat Bates and Rocky Walcher.

Tewell is a 4-time winner on the PGA Tour and won 8 times on the Champions Tour in his career. Bates is a 5-time winner on the “ Tour” and Walcher, a Woodward native, also has a career win on the “ Tour.” Walcher also is a 2-time US Open qualifier.

Youngsters between the ages of 5 and 18 are welcome to participate in the clinic.

The clinic will start with an exhibition by Tewell and Bates on the No. 1 tee box. Participants will receive instruction on driving, iron play, short game and putting skills. Golf clubs and balls will be provided and lunch will be provided for participants at the conclusion of the clinic.

All participants are eligible to win a free set of “US Kids” junior clubs. One junior girl and one junior boy will receive a set.

Among the sponsors are Bank 7, Edward Jones, Irwin Auto, McKay Ford-Lincoln and the Stock Exchange Bank.

Youngsters can pre-register online at or at the golf club from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on the day of the clinic.

Kids, Inc.

The registration period for Kids, Inc. football and soccer is under way.

Football is for 5th-6th grades and players must be present when registering to be weighed. The registration period ends Aug. 8.

For soccer birthdays are:

• U10 - Aug. 1, 2003 to July 31, 2005.

• U8 - Aug. 1, 2005 to July 31, 2007.

• U6 - Aug. 1, 2007 to July 31, 2008.

Birth certificates must be on file for a youth to register for any Kids,  Inc. sport.

Registration ends Aug. 13

Equipment checkout

Football equipment checkout for 7th and 8th grade players will be held Monday, Aug. 12 in the old gym at Woodward Middle School. Eighth graders can check out equipment at 8 a.m. and 7th graders at 9 a.m. All managers need to report at 7:30 a.m.

The first practice will be Aug. 12 at 4 p.m.
