Local, area sports briefs

Softball tourney

Arnett's Northwest Classic softball tournament opens today at 2 sites.

Games are scheduled in Arnett and Vici today with everything moving to Arnett on Friday.

Twelve teams are in the double elimination tournament.

Here are the opening round pairings

At Vici

Vici (3-13) vs. Ringwood (22-8), noon

Fargo (4-7) vs. Hammon (14-10), 1 p.m.

Leedey (21-8) vs. Vici-Ringwood winner, 2 p.m.

Mooreland (22-9) vs. Fargo-Hammon winner, 3 p.m.

At Arnett

Cheyenne (3-8) vs. Woodward (8-10), noon

Forgan vs. Arapaho (13-6), 1 p.m.

Arnett (14-7) vs. Cheyenne-Woodward winner, 2 p.m.

Shattuck (19-4) vs. Forgan-Arapaho winner, 3 p.m.

The championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday.

Baseball Tourney

The Arnett Invitational Baseball Tournament opens a 3-day run today with four games.

First-round pairings have the Weatherford JV boys against Mooreland at 12:30 p.m. Seiling takes on the Clinton JV at 2:45 p.m., Shattuck plays Thomas at 5 p.m. and host Cheyenne/Arnett/Reydon faces the Woodward JV at 7:15 p.m.

Woodward's varsity team will be in action today as well, traveling to face Pampa, Texas.

The Boomers, 8-15, will be trying to snap a 4-game losing skid.

Woodward and Pampa have not played this season.

On Saturday, the Boomers travel to Alva for games against the Goldbugs at noon and Blackwell at 2:30 p.m. Woodward has split with Alva this year and has not played Blackwell.

Boomer soccer

The Woodward girls soccer team will try and break a 3-game losing streak tonight as the Boomers host Cordell.

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at Boomer Stadium.

Woodward will also be after its first District 4A-1 victory. Cordell is 1-3 in district matches with the win coming over Alva.
