Next action: Weatherford Tournament on Thursday. Woodward plays Newcastle at 3:15. A win puts the Boomers against Mangum or Cheyenne at 5:45 p.m. A loss has them playing at 8:15 p.m. against Mangum or Cheyenne.

Woodward's girls are 7-6 and ranked 17th in Class 6A. Newcastle is 5A and has a 9-15 record, winning the last four after going through a 13 game losing streak.

Woodward's girls are 3-5 and 0-1 in district play while Elk City is 5-3 and 2-0 in district games. Three of Woodward's losses have come in overtime or shootouts. Woodward's boys are 3-5 overall while Elk City is 2-6 and both are coming off tough losses.


Woodward dropped a 6-5 decision at Perryton on Tuesday when the Rangers with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Woodward had tied the game in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Garrett Owen, who drove in two runs, scored two and had three hits in the game. Kade Marlatt also scored twice and Garrett Hines had two hits.

Troy Reddoch was the losing pitcher in relief of Gerardo Castro.

Next action: The Boomers, 7-11, play Putnam West at noon and Hennessey at 2 p.m. in tournament play at Kingfisher on Thursday. Putnam West is just 2-15 this year with a pair of victories over Western Heights. Hennessey is 14-2 and ranked 9th in Class 2A with a four-game winning streak. The Eagles have lost only to fourth-ranked Tushka and to Kingfisher.

On Friday, Woodward faces Noble in the final pool round game. Noble is 13-8 so far.


The Boomer tennis teams travel to Elk City on Friday for the Clinton Invitational. It will be Woodward's second tournament of the season.

The boys golf team is next in action on April 14 at Elk City and the girls go to Clinton on April 16.
