Warriors get two wins over Boomers

Woodward, Okla. — Anadarko’s top-ranked Lady Warriors found themselves in a tough battle with the Boomers for the better part of 3 quarters Friday night.

But a 21-0 run in the late stages of the third quarter and 3 minutes into the fourth period broke the game open as the Lady Warriors recorded a 61-34 win at Boomer Fieldhouse.

Anadarko’s boys completed the sweep with a 50-43 decision over the Boomers.

Amanda Covalt opened the game with a pair of 3-pointers and Haylee Bates scored 10 of her 12 points in the first half as the Boomers battled the defending state champions on even terms.

Anadarko closed the half with 6 straight points to go up 24-18.

It was still a 6-point game after Merceedez Bell scored for the Boomers midway through the third period.

Ahead just 33-27, the Warriors proceeded to put the game away. Lakota Beatty scored the final 7 points of the  quarter to make it 40-27. By the time the Boomers scored again at the 5:36 mark of the fourth quarter, it was 54-27.

Beatty, an OSU signee, led Anadarko with 18 points, 13 in the second half. Keila Pahcoddy added 17 points and Ashley Beattie 14.

Covalt finished with 9 for the Boomers and Hillary Hurst scored 7.

The boys game was also a battle, but Anadarko had the lead throughout the second half.

The Warriors didn’t really pull away from the Boomers - the largest lead was 12 points - but they maintained a fairly safe, if not always comfortable margin.

The closest the Boomers could get was 5 points in the third quarter and 6 points in the fourth period.

Parton led Anadarko with 17 points and Satoe scored 11.

The Boomers got 18 points from Ty Richey, with 14 coming in the fourth period, and Taylan Iliff added 17 points. Only 2 other Woodward players - Trevor Collier (7) and Micah Kee (1) scored.

The Warriors, a state tournament team last year, came into the game ranked 4th in Class 4A.

The Boomers saw their record fall to 6-6.

Woodward begins an extended road trip tonight with games in Cache starting at 6:30 p.m. Next week the Boomers are in Alva on Tuesday and to Newcastle on Thursday for a tournament. Both Woodward teams play Ada in the opening round.
